The Redmond giant bought a block of Internet addresses owned by the Canadian version 4 bankrupt Nortel.
Microsoft agreed to pay $ 7.5 million to buy a block of 666,624 IPv4 addresses belonging to bankrupt Canadian supplier Nortel. It therefore sets to 11.25 dollars an IPv4 address.
Approximately 470,000 addresses acquired will be used immediately, while the other part will be transferred to the publisher of Redmond where the bankruptcy is over Nortel. The network equipment supplier said it had received applications from 80 potential buyers. Microsoft has not commented on the acquisition nor explained that he intended to use these addresses.
This announcement comes just weeks after the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced that it had delivered the latest block of IPv4 addresses. Other records should not delay to do the same, making urgent the need to prepare the transition to IPv6
