Launching Today: iPad Subscriptions

Finally. A year ago, when we launched the Wired iPad app, we promised that subscriptions were on their way. And indeed they were—it just took a while for the right path to become clear (much traveling between New York and Cupertino paid off). Today, I’m pleased to announce that we’ve arrived. If you want Wired to just come to your tablet each month, no effort required, it will. And if you’re already aWired print subscriber, it won’t cost you a penny.
Our model is “subscribe once, read anywhere, anytime.” At the moment, that means print and iPad. But we’ve announced forthcoming support for Android tablet and desktop reading, too. Ultimately, we and the rest of the industry will figure out how to create a compelling magazine experience on a phone, but the move from 10 inch screens to 7 inches to 3 inches is going to take more than just resizing of pages—it will take an entirely new interface approach, which is exciting to imagine.
Your choices are as follows: If you’re a print subscriber, just go download the Wired iPad app, and follow the instructions to enter your information to get access. If you’re not a print subscriber, you can subscribe to the iPad edition for $19.99 for 12 issues and get all the extra content that comes with our tablet edition. You can also choose a monthly subscription for $1.99 per month, which is easy to cancel at any time. Or, if you just want to buy a single issue, you can for $3.99.
Whichever path you choose, our aim is to make the experience of reading Wired on a tablet better every month. The file size has been reduced by 25% and will continue to shrink. You can now read one issue as you download another. And in the coming months, we have more features on the way that will make it easier to find and share stories that you love.
There’s still much work to be done. But we’re really proud of Wired on the iPad, and we’re thrilled today that we can make it easier than ever for you to get it.
