9 to 5 Mac has discovered an icon in the new PhotoStream feature in iPhoto 9.2 beta, which appears to be an iPhone icon, but it doesn't look like iPhone 4. Interestingly, it looks more like the rumored redesigned iPhone 5 with a larger screen and rectangular home button.
We’ve heard conflicting reports about next generation iPhone’s form factor. According to some reports, next generation iPhone will be completely redesigned, will sport a larger screen and will look more like iPod Touch 4G rather than iPhone 4.
While, some reports claim that fifth generation iPhone will come with improved specifications such as faster processor, 8-megapixel camera etc. just like iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, but won’t feature an all-new design and will look like iPhone 4.
As you can see below, the icon in the new PhotoStream app seems to suggest that it will be the former - a completely redesigned iPhone.
Joshua Topolsky, former Engadget Editor who now writes at This is my next was the first to report that iPhone 5 will be completely redesigned back in April. According to their source, iPhone 5 will be thinner than the iPhone 4, and have a "teardrop" shape, which goes from thick to thin like MacBook Air. He had also claimed that the home button will be enlarged and will double up as the home button and also a gesture area.
You can also checkout the mockup of what the next generation iPhone will look like based on the information Topolsky received and as you can see it looks very similar to iPhone design seen in the icon.
Update:
It looks like these images originated from iPhoto 9.2 beta. Mac Rumors reports that the iPhone icon is possibility an artists representation rather than the iPhone 5 icon as it seems unlikely that the iPhoto team would have early access to the next generation iPhone.
What do you think about the possibility of a redesigned iPhone 5 with larger screen and rectangular home button? We're really excited, we can't wait to get our hands on the new iPhone.
