ElcomSoft exposes information in BlackBerry backups

With BlackBerries occupying approximately 40 per cent of the North American market of business communicators and about 20 per cent of the market worldwide, accessing information stored in BlackBerry devices can be essential for investigations, and is in high demand by forensic customers and government officials.


ElcomSoft released Blackberry Backup Explorer, which provides forensic access to essential information stored in BlackBerry devices by extracting, analyzing, printing or exporting the content of an off-line backup in structured, human-readable form.

Information stored in BlackBerry backups includes email and SMS, Web browsing history, call logs, pictures and photos, as well as organizer information such as phone books, contacts and appointments.

Backups created with PC and Mac versions of BlackBerry Desktop Software are supported, while BlackBerry Desktop Software itself is not required to operate Elcomsoft Blackberry Backup Explorer.

Elcomsoft Blackberry Backup Explorer offers a variety of printing and exporting options in addition to on-screen analysis. PDF, HTML, DOC and RTF exports can include clickable Table of Contents for even easier navigation. PDF files produces with Elcomsoft Blackberry Backup Explorer can be protected with a password or access-restricted.

A wide range of command-line options is available, enabling background batch operation and providing easy integration with existing forensic systems.

Elcomsoft Blackberry Backup Explorer Professional ($199) and Standard ($49) editions are available.
